VICTORIA WILLIAMS: It was in Europe, before European audiences, and
I think they weren't used to having a 75 years old man in the nightclub
and they come to a Giant Sand show, and I go up and I'm playing, and they
go like, "who is this?", and then Pappy gets out there, and
they go,"who is thiiiis?". And by the end of a song with Pappy,
they're just like little children with these big smiles and then the whole
gang would get out there and we just really had a really good time.
PJB: When you're on stage, it's like you're playing a game and the act
of performing live, you don't know what's gonna happen. It's not like
you're getting up and playing a song from beginning to end like you've
rehearsed it. We played that way a little bit but now it sort of became
an art for him.
VW: He likes it when you don't know what you're doing, 'cause that's kind
of the true human condition, isn't it ?
